How can you focus your mind during training?

CPC training is incredibly important for making sure you are always safe on the road. Therefore, it’s important to remain focussed whilst you’re conducting your CPC training – so what are our top tips for staying focussed during training?

Get a good night’s sleep! Make sure you are well rested the day before your training, so you can be alert during your sessions. A good night’s sleep will ensure you can concentrate fully.

Get rid of all distractions! Mobile phones are an awful distraction in all walks of our everyday lives today – put your phone away during your training!

Take proper breaks. During your training you will have the time to take breaks – but make sure you take them properly. Go for a short walk and get some fresh air, have a snack, and you’ll find yourself much more prepared to continue your course.

Eat well. Start your day with a nutritious breakfast – by making sure you’re well fuelled for the day you’ll find it much easier to concentrate on your training course.

What are smart motorways and how do we use them?

Smart motorways have been a hot topic of conversation for a while now. Some people love them, others don’t – but the fact remains they are here to stay and we’re seeing more smart motorways than ever before. So what is a smart motorway?

A smart motorway uses traffic management methods to both increase road capacity and reduce traffic congestion. Highways England developed smart motorways as a way of managing traffic with minimal environmental impact.

There are three types of smart motorway; All lane running, dynamic hard shoulder and controlled motorway schemes. Concerns were raised initially by the lack of hard shoulder when it comes to smart motorways, but Highways England has reported that journey reliability has been improved by 22% and personal injury accidents have been reduced than more by half thanks to smart motorways.

The most important thing when travelling on a smart motorway is to pay attention to signage. The motorway will display different speed limits/closed lanes depending on the need for traffic management – so pay attention!

Drive Safely this Winter!

It’s that time of year again! With the weather becoming more unpredictable it’s vital that those who drive for a living are well prepared and keeping safe during the winter months. Take a look at our top tips below.

Check your tyres. Check the tread of your tyres and ensure they are fully inflated as instructed by the manufacturer. Otherwise you’re risking a skid!

Keep it light. Even winter days can be dark sometimes so it’s likely you’ll be using your lights more often – check they’re working regularly!

Wipe it clean! Your windscreen wipers should be effective and always ensure you are well stocked up on screenwash and anti freeze.

Can you see? Before you set off on any journey ensure your windows and mirrors are fully clear of ice and snow.

Be prepared. Keep a blanket and water with you when possible, just in case the worst happens!

Electric Vehicles – The Future of Logistics

The climate crisis threatens our way of life – And society has to adapt to survive! As such, the move to electric vehicles is building momentum – not just for consumers but for logistics giants too.

EVs are growing in popularity. Organisations such as Amazon and DPD are already investing in replacing their fleet with electric vehicles. Battery power technology is constantly improving, and with more and more new electric charging points being made available across the country long distance driving in electric vehicles is becoming a reality.

It’s likely we’ll see more electric trucks and lorries on our roads in the next year. With the cost of traditional fuel skyrocketing EVs are a potential alternative companies feeling the pinch.

EVs have the potential to save money in the long run as well as save the planet. Organisations should think about future proofing their fleet sooner rather than later.

The perks of becoming a professional driver

Here at WeTrainCPC we know the driving industry, and it’s an industry that is on its way up! If you’re tired of the 9-5 working way of life, and want a rewarding and challenging career in a hugely important role, take a look at our top reasons why driving for a living can be an excellent career path.

Drivers are in demand. Driving is a sector that is growing each year, with demand for excellent service becoming more vital as technology becomes more efficient and fast paced. Newly qualified professional drivers have no problem in finding flexible, temporary or permanent jobs all over the country, so it’s a career choice that comes with almost guaranteed work.

Let’s talk about the money. With the demand for drivers being so high and in constant demand, companies are willing to pay well for reliable drivers. Starting salaries are generally higher than in most other professions, so although driving can sometimes be challenging, drivers are rewarded for their time well.

New challenges ahead! Although driving is something that the majority of the population partake in each day, driving professionally offers no end to new challenges and opportunities for professional and personal development. With each skill mastered, drivers find new opportunities, sometimes offering higher salaries, in their career development.

It can be a difficult decision to enter the driving industry, as it takes time to train and there can be some financial implications, but the long-term career development and financial gains make driving as a career an attractive proposition in today’s market! Why more women should consider driving for a living

For the most part, the lorry driving industry is still in 2022 dominated by men. It’s often a career than women are not expected to choose and most women won’t consider long distance driving. But why?

Women across the world who drive for a living often say that they are still greeted with surprise when making their delivery, and in some ways it’s understandable. Only 1.2% of HGV drivers in the UK are women.

Although the women who work in the sector often find themselves in the job for many different reasons, a career in driving can be hugely beneficial and convenient for women. The flexibility of shifts in the role plus the financial rewards can benefit people who may find themselves juggling the pressures of paying the bills and raising a family.

Also, there’s a misconception that the role demands a lot of physical exertion, but times have changed. With the development of new technologies such as automatic gears and hi-tech suspension it’s a career that no longer requires big strength or hard labour. A plus point for both men and women!

With a shortage of drivers across the UK and all over the world, perhaps more needs to be done to encourage women to take on a truly rewarding career in driving. For women already in the sector, they love the freedom, the flexibility and the challenge – so perhaps it’s time for a change?

Is your vehicle overloaded?

If you drive for a living, you’ll understand that it can sometimes be a highly pressured position, with demand for fast delivery now higher than ever.

However, vehicle overloading can be a huge risk the driver and other drivers on the road. And yet, 9 out of 10 vehicles were found by the DVSA to be overloaded and therefore a risk to themselves and others on the road.

Vehicle manufacturers are trying to respond to the risk as best they can, with early collision warning systems becoming ever more sophisticated.

Whilst manufacturers are investing into new and more advanced safety technology, these advances are almost redundant if drivers don’t comply with weight specifications. Companies must actively remind all drivers of the risk and ensure correct procedures are followed.

Smaller vans remain unregulated when it comes to load, so organisations must take responsibility and promote good practise.
